Dear China - We are Over You.

Dear ‘Made in China’ – We Are Over You.

-The World

Counterfeit sunglasses, tainted baby formulas, crumbly dry-wall, coats of lead based paints on children teething toys, misrepresented productions schedules, an extended New Years shut down schedule, communication issues, and general incompetence… the world is approaching a tipping point where enough is enough with China.

Cheap labor might be enticing, but the old saying of “you get what you paid for” seems to be the reality for a lot of individuals purchasing from the far-east. More times than not, products do not match the bill of ladings or the purchase orders they were created from. Furthermore, customer service is almost non-existent when an error does occur.

To compound this information - China’s emerging middle class has caused a steady increase in their own purchasing power. This demand for goods has had a direct impact in increasing prices – where products used to be built strictly for export, now they are also being built for domestic consumption. Soon enough the entire purpose of out-sourcing will be obsolete.

The world is also sick of the ‘rip-off’ rooted back to this foreign manufacturing monopoly.

In the words of one Egyptian tourist shop owner:

“We have been forced to pretend to lock up our stores when we see their tour group busses pull-up.”

The‘their’ in his statement is referencing the Chinese tourists who come to the local attractions. Apparently, Chinese tourists took pictures of and purchased souvenirs – a very innocent and normal action you would think. Only several months after the purchases everything from papyrus to hand carved marble statues were being brought in by the container load. Exact replicas – but made from similar and/or comparable Asian materials only lacking the unique and personal skilled craftsman/artistic attention that there originals possessed. Oh… they cost a fraction of the price as well – motivated purchasers (aka tourist) none the wiser.

The world knows better China. Your underpaid labor, P.O.S. Products, and assumption of our stupidity, have finally caught up to you. We’re over it.

I’d say I’m looking for ‘Made in America’ stickers for now on - but I’m pretty sure you’ll probably start placing those on your products next.

Oh thanks for sending us Stink Bugs… that’s your fault 2.
